BPC-157
An unapproved research peptide promoted for healing despite an evidence base dominated by animal studies and unresolved safety questions.

BPC-157 is widely marketed online for tendon, muscle, ligament, and gastrointestinal healing. The scientific literature does not match the confidence of those claims: a systematic review of musculoskeletal research included 36 studies, of which 35 were preclinical and only one was clinical.[1]
Broader 2025 and 2026 reviews identified only three published human reports—fewer than 30 people in total—covering uncontrolled knee-pain, bladder-symptom, and two-person intravenous safety or pharmacokinetic observations. None was a randomized controlled efficacy trial, and the preparations and routes were not standardized.[1][3][4]
In its July 2026 compounding review, FDA staff found that BPC-157 free base and acetate were not components of an approved drug, were not well characterized, lacked adequate clinical safety and immunogenicity information, and had insufficient evidence for the evaluated use. The review proposed against adding them to the 503A Bulks List; an advisory committee recommendation is not drug approval.[2]
The World Anti-Doping Agency's 2026 Prohibited List also includes BPC-157 under S0 non-approved substances. That sporting rule is separate from medical efficacy, but it matters for tested athletes and reinforces that BPC-157 is not an approved therapeutic.[5]
Animal experiments can justify human trials, but they cannot establish a safe dose, meaningful benefit, or acceptable risk in people. With no validated formulation, dose, or controlled efficacy trial, online and compounded products should not be treated as evidence-based healing therapies.[1][4][2]
